Greetings from Chairman
Dear distinguished symposium participants:
On behalf of the Taiwan Society of Microbial Ecology (TSME), it is our great pleasure to welcome all of you to the 11th Asian Symposium on Microbial Ecology (ASME), held at Tunghai University in Taichung, Taiwan on May 11-13, 2019.
We, TSME, have taken pride for hosting this symposium for all Asian microbial ecologists. It is our honor to have speakers from around the world, including Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Russia, Singapore, Vietnam and Taiwan, to share with us their most exciting experimental findings in the field of microbial ecology. The topics are impressively broad and deep, covering microbiota, ecology and evolution of host-associated and plant-associated microbes, marine microbiology, geomicrobiology, eukaryotic microbiology, environmental microbiology and engineering, and frontiers in microbial ecology. I am confident that there will be something special and worthwhile for every participant of the symposium.
The ASME has a diverse range of programs including poster presentations, a round table discussion for women scientists, a young scientist meeting, a young scientist party, a banquet, and a one-day tour. We encourage participants to take part in as many activities as possible as we believe that these programs will help to promote harmony and friendship through this Asian Symposium.
I would also like to thank our many sponsors, exhibitors, and committee volunteers as they are key to the success of the symposium.
Finally, I would like to point out that Tunghai University was founded by Methodist missionaries in 1955 as a comprehensive university, the first private university and the second university in Taiwan. The Luce Memorial Chapel, designed by noted architects Chen Chi-Kwan and I. M. Pei, is a local landmark; our oldest college buildings were also built in the 1950s, in the extremely elegant and sober Tang dynasty style. So don’t forget to enjoy the beauty of the campus that we take pride in. I look forward to meeting all of you at this year’s symposium.
